What My Single Parent Blog is About:

I share my personal experience of working through the divorce and approaching new relationships while caring for two children and choosing to enjoy every moment on this journey. I share photos as well as personal narratives of situations from my life as a single mom. I am a personal development enthusiast so I continually encourage other parents, and especially single parents, to 'find themselves' and make the most of their situation...loving life while doing it.

How I Choose My Topics:

From my personal journey, I choose topics to discuss. This year I developed 12 monthly missions which will guide my blog each month, but I don't feel too tightly bound to it.

I live my life as an open book, but I try to view my posts as if someone from my X's family might read it. If I am sharing the facts and the truth, and not being derogatory of him personally, I feel safe about what I post. I also want to consider my children reading what I say; so more care has to go in to how I portray even the facts at times.

Remember this is not for man-bashing or Ex-bashing - at least it shouldn't be used for that purpose.

I aim to use the blog as therapeutic for me but also as a positive source of encouragement for others going through similar situations of divorce and parenting.

If you want to maintain true privacy, conceal the names of your children and never use your last name in your blog or affiliated sites. My facebook is attached to my blog, so my last name was revealed in the last year. But, again, if I am careful about what I share, I am not worried about people who know me seeing the posts.

Advice

  • Keep it sincere and share what personal transparency you feel comfortable sharing.
  • Everyone has a story to share... and making yours genuine to your unique situation will be interesting for others to read.
  • I choose to write at night after the kiddos go to bed. But I also try to track ideas in a journal if possible during the day if I get inspiration.
  • As your kiddos get older, be sure to ask them about sharing things about them personally. Now that my son is a teenager, he is more private, so I try to ask him about sharing something that have to do with what is going on his world - before posting it.
