Being present at Back-to-School Night is a great way to support your child's education and gather key insights about his or her teachers' expectations for the year ahead. If you haven't yet made the commitment to attend, I encourage you to read Top 10 Reasons to Go to Back-to-School Night, written by About.com's Guide to Children With Special Needs, Terri Mauro.
In addition, if you're raising your children with a co-parent, find out whether he or she is planning to attend. Making the effort to collaborate in this way will set a positive tone for the entire school year. Plus, letting your child's mom or dad know how much their involvement means to your son or daughter can go a long way toward building bridges between you so that you can effectively collaborate as co-parents.
