Take your daughter shopping during a tax free weekend event near you.Do you live in a state that offers a tax free weekend during the summer? If you do, it makes sense to plan your back-to-school shopping around the event.

In fact, even if you don't, the opportunity to enjoy a tax free holiday might be worth driving to another state. See if you can get a group of friends and family members together to share the cost of gasoline and other travel expenses. (It could even evolve into an annual trip!)

The following states are offering a tax free weekend event during 2011:

Alabama
Connecticut
Florida
Iowa
Louisiana
Maryland
Mississippi
Missouri
New Mexico
New York
North Carolina
Oklahoma
South Carolina
Tennessee
Texas
Virginia

Note: Unfortunately, Georgia, Vermont, and Washington, D.C. will not be offering tax free weekends this year, and the dates for West Virginia's sales tax holiday have not been announced yet.

This would be a great idea for me, but Texas always does their tax free weekend the weekend before school starts. I can’t wait that long to buy school supplies.

I ask you, why on earth would they do it that weekend? That gives parents no time to get organized and ready for school. It’s frustrating to me, if you can’t tell. :)
