House Rules Quote

Submit an Entry: My House Rules

By

The ages of my kids:

5 and 7

My house rules are:

"If you sleep on it ... make it up.

If you wear it ... hang it up.

If you drop it ... pick it up.

If you eat out of it ... wash it up.

If you step on it ... wipe it up.

If you open it ... close it.

If you empty it ... fill it up.

If it howls ... feed it.

If it cries ... love it."

OR

"If you drop it ... pick it up.

If you sleep on it ... make it up.

If you wear it ... hang it up.

If you spill it ... wipe it up.

If you turn it on ... turn it off.

If you open it ... close it.

If it rings ... answer it.

If it whines ... feed it.

If it cries ... love it."

Typical consequences for breaking my house rules:

It depends on my mood, which isn't good at all! Mostly losing "wants" and re-teaching the difference between wants and needs. Sometimes I feel like I talk and talk and talk forever, and I always have them repeat it.

Advice

  • Breathe 1-2-3
  • Leave the room if you have to

I was unable to find the original sources of the "House Rules" quotes, but I know I've seen them before on posters and wall plaques.
