Note: West Virginia's 2013 tax free shopping dates have not been released yet. If the state of West Virginia schedules a sales tax holiday for 2013, this page will be updated to reflect that information Based on previous years, it is likely that the sales tax free holiday will be scheduled for the fall.

In the past, West Virginia's Energy Star Sales Tax Holiday took place during the months of September, October, and November and applied to:

  • Energy Star products
  • Limited to items that cost $5,000 or less
  • Must be purchased for noncommercial, home use only

Meanwhile, shoppers who wish to take advantage of a general merchandise sales tax holiday should consider driving to a nearby state, such as Maryland or Virginia.

Keep in mind, too, that there are many ways to save on your kids' back-to-school shopping needs. Try shopping at a thrift stores, using coupons, and taking advantage of the many end-of-summer sales available to shoppers in August.
