Mississippi's 2014 tax free shopping dates have not been released yet. However, based on last year's dates (shown below), it is likely that Mississippi's tax free holiday will occur between July 25-26, 2014. This page will be updated once those dates are officially confirmed on Mississippi's web site.

The state of Mississippi is offering one tax free weekend event during 2013. It applies only to clothing and shoes and is intended to coincide with parents' annual back-to-school shopping efforts.

Mississippi's Tax Free Weekend Event:

Mississippi's tax free weekend is scheduled for July 26-27, 2013 and applies to the following purchases:

  • Clothing under $100
  • Shoes under $100

The Following Items Are Not Included in Mississippi's Tax Free Weekend:

  • Accessories such as jewelry, handbags, luggage, umbrellas, wallets, watches, backpacks, briefcases, and garment bags
  • Skis, swim fins, roller blades, skates, and other items that can be worn on the feet but do not qualify as "shoes"

Smart Shopping Strategies for Mississippi's Tax Free Weekend:

Remember that using good common sense will help you save even more more during tax free weekend. For example, take the time to compare prices at different stores, either in person or on the internet, and use coupons to save even more when possible.

In addition, make sure you're not buying things you don't need, just because of the tax free weekend. After all, the sales tax rate in Mississippi is 7%, so that's the amount - in addition to any local sales tax, if applicable - that you you would be saving by shopping during the sales tax holiday. It may turn out that you can save even more during the week before or the week after Mississippi's tax free weekend if you shop around and pay attention to sales and promotions.

Keep in mind, too, that individual municipalities can choose to opt-out of Mississippi's tax free weekend, so you will need to check with your town hall or municipality office to ensure that the sales tax holiday is indeed taking place in your area.
