Review of Match.com's Online Dating Services

The following review was submitted by "Cedarburghome":

About.com Rating two out of Five

By Jennifer Wolf, About.com

The service Match.com offers has a lot of potential. However, I was disappointed in the way fellow participants ignored my E-mails, and I do not plan to re-subscribe to Match.com's online dating site.

Pros of Using Match.com

  • A chance to put myself out there with words and photos to those who might be interested

  • Photos, which can help narrow down whom you'd like to contact, presuming that the photos are authentic and up-to-date

  • Plenty of space to list things you want others to know about you

  • Cost ($29 per month)

  • Categories - location, age groups, etc.

  • The compatibility charts are well done and can be used effectively

Cons of Using Match.com

  • Lots of non-responders

  • Lots of old photos

  • People wanting to get serious too soon

Match.com's Services Include

  • A personal profile including:
    • Personality
    • Lifestyle
    • Interests and hobbies
    • Religious views
    • Type of employment
    • Income
  • The chance to describe what you are looking for in a companion/mate
  • Tagging with keywords to help members find your profile
  • The ability to perform reverse matches to find out which members are searching for your profile

Cedarburghome's Bottom Line

What I found was that a lot of the participants were bossy about what they expected us men to say and do on Match.com. For example, "Be honest," "Don't play games," "Be sincere," "Use recent photos," and "Be prompt in your responses."

However, I sent about ten E-mails to women in my area that I thought were interesting, and I received no responses. Sometimes I even E-mailed them a second time to make sure that the E-mails were received, or I would reiterate my interest in that person.

I thought this was very rude, and decided not to be involved with the service once my subscription expires.

I've heard it worked for some people, but it just did not work for me. The biggest turn-off was the lack of response. I also found it a bit odd that so many people had such strict criteria of what they expected from others.
