How to Find a Child Custody Mediator

By December 30, 2013

Follow me on:

Thinking of working with a mediator in the new year? How you go about finding one will depend, in part, on whether you are required to seek mediation by the state, or whether you and your ex are seeking mediation on your own in an effort to reach an agreement about issues likechild custody, parenting time schedules, and more.

A man shakes hands with a child custody mediator.

If mediation is a requirement for divorcing parents in the state where you live, you'll want to contact the court directly and ask the clerk for a list of approved mediators. If you're planning to give it a go on your own, read How to Find a Qualified Child Custody Mediator for a list of resources and questions you should ask.

And remember, you'll get out of mediation what you put into it. So approach it with an open mind and expect good things -- it could be the best thing you've ever done for your kids!
