Practice Back-to-School Routines Ahead of Time

A couple of months ago, my six-year-old asked if we could "practice" getting ready for school a few times before the big day. Of course, I told her yes (while secretly marveling at how well she knows her snooze-button-pushing-mommy). Now that the start of school is just three weeks away, we've set aside a few dates to give ourselves a trial run.

Another habit we've been working on is laying out our clothes each night before we get ready for bed. It's a simple thing that saves us so much time. And since it's also something that she enjoys, it's been a fun way to transition into the back-to-school routine.

A less popular switch around here has been eating breakfast in the kitchen, sitting at the kitchen table--rather than lounging in front of the TV, since I don't allow my kids to watch TV in the morning before school. It took a few days to adjust to this one, but both of my kids are now on board with the change. Again, it's a simple switch that makes getting ready on school mornings a lot easier for all of us!

What are some of the things that you're dong to help your kids prepare for the back-to-school transition? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
