Thrifty Thursday: Inexpensive Summer Learning Materials

This week I found some excellent educational workbooks for my daughter at the dollar store. Filled with Disney princesses, the workbooks are a perfect fit for her. And at $1 a piece, they're a perfect fit for my budget, too.

In addition, we're planning to take full advantage of our local library's summer programming this year, and even attend a few free sessions at our local book, craft, and home improvement stores. Throw in regular trips to the grocery store (calculator and coupons in hand), and my kids will have plenty of opportunities to hone their academic skills over summer break.

How will you keep the learning going over the summer? Share your ideas by leaving a comment below.

The library summer reading club was one of the joys of my youth, and most libraries still host them. As a former teacher, I know that if you can keep kids reading over the summer, they’ll lose much less academic ground. If your kids don’t read yet, you can still participate by reading to them, and the reading club is a good reminder and incentive to keep on doing so.

I, too, found a nice resource called Summer Daily Brainwork. Read about it in this blog post: http://penningtonpublishing.com/blog/study_skills/summer-daily-brainwork/
