I did something a little out of the ordinary this evening: I sat down and made clay Easter figures with my 6-year-old. And I have to tell you that playing with that clay, rubbing it between my fingers, and shaping it into a rudimentary yellow chick was one of the most relaxing, soothing things I've done in a long time!

Does playing with your kids ever have that effect on you? It's amazing how out-of-the-stress-zone being present with them--not just physically, but emotionally, too--can be.

So the next time you find yourself feeling extra stressed out or out-of-control, spend some time in your kids' world. Play their games. Mimic their energy. Listen to their music. Be present with them. And see if you don't feel just a bit lighter when you turn back to your adult responsibilities.

Noting relaxes me more than coloring with my preschoolers.
