What is the impact of father absence on kids and families? What are the reasons why some fathers--and mothers, as well--are willing to walk away from their children's lives? And how can single parents best mediate the effects of abandonment in their children?
These are some of the issues to be addressed in MSNBC's documentary, "A Father's Promise," which will air tonight at 8:00 p.m.
The title comes from promises that several men, highlighted in the documentary, made to their new-born babies twelve years ago, in an episode of "Dateline."
The documentary will also include a panel discussion facilitated by Al Roker, including insight from:
- NBC's Tiki Barber
- Cory Booker, Mayor of Newark, NJ
- Rev. Eugene F. Rivers, pastor of Azusa Community Church in Boston
- Melissa Harris-Lacewell, Associate Professor of Politics and African American Studies at Princeton University, and
- Marni McKoy, principal of Link Community School in Newark, NJ
