How Do You Handle Having Different Parenting Styles?

Saturday January 3, 2009

Are you having a parenting styles challenge with your ex? You know, where the way you do things is drastically different from the way he or she does things? Are you:

  • Tired of feeling like "the bad guy" every time you enforce a rule that doesn't exist when your kids are visiting with your ex?

  • Feeling guilty that your kids have to remember one set of rules at your house and another set when they're with the other parent?

  • Constantly wondering whether you've set your expectations too high or too low?
Unfortunately, in varying degrees, these experiences are just part of being a co-parenting family, and feeling bad about it can make it easier for your kids to take advantage of the situation.

So, how do you cope with having different parenting styles? Let us know by participating in this week's Single Parents' Poll, or--for ideas and tips--read the article How to Handle Different Parenting Styles: Re-establish Your Own Authority Even When Your Parenting Styles Differ.
