Coping With Turmoil: Dealing With the First 30 Days

Saturday July 19, 2008

I came across a book today that you may be interested in. It's called The First 30 Days -- Your Guide to Any Change and Loving Your Life More, and it's written by Ariane de Bonvoisin. Wayne Parker, About.com's Guide to Fatherhood, wrote about it recently in his blog.

What caught my eye in Wayne's review of The First 30 Days is that the book focuses on teaching readers to view change as an opportunity for personal growth, and introduces nine specific principles for successfully navigating changes in your life.

These principles include concepts like staying positive, recognizing your own strengths, accepting change as a part of life, and the importance of a support network.

(Come to think of it, these are some of the same concepts that we stress in the Single Parents Forum!)

Because, unfortunately, the reality is that you can't just go back and erase what's happened, you can only move forward. And while a lot of the changes in your life may not have been things you would have chosen for yourself and your kids, you're never completely powerless; you always have a say in how you'll respond to change, and in the messages your children will learn through your example.
