Teen Pregnancy Pact

Friday June 20, 2008
Yesterday, I blogged about single parent statistics across the US. For one town in Massachusetts, those numbers will rise by at least 17 next year. According to Time Magazine Online, a group of teens girls at Gloucester High School have apparently formed a pregnancy "pact" - a promise to become pregnant and raise their children together. While perhaps not all involved in the pact have become pregnant, at least 17 girls among the school's population of 1,200 are expecting.

One classmate, Amanda Ireland - who gave birth herself during her freshman year - explained to Time why she believes the girls chose to pursue single parenthood:
"They're so excited to finally have someone to love them unconditionally. I try to explain it's hard to feel loved when an infant is screaming to be fed at 3 a.m."
Questions for Our Single Parent Community: What advice do you have to share with these girls? And what about their families? If you could speak to them right now, encourage them, or pass on the wisdom of your experience, what would you say?

(1) a mom who cares says:

If you do not have the support you need at home, find the help you need from faith based organizations. If you don’t know where to go, see a Catholic priest. There are no “easy outs” with pregnancy, and abortion is a decision you can never take back and that you will regret for the rest of your life. Pro-abortionists will not tell you this, but there are two deaths in every abortion, the child’s and your heart.
