How to Maximize Evening Time With Your Kids

Wednesday July 11, 2007
Did you know that we now have parenting videos here at About.com? One particular video that I wanted to point out to you is Maximize Evening Quality Time. Here are a few of the great reminders that I got out of it:
  • As soon as you get home, spend ten minutes playing with your kids. Resist the urge to check e-mail or get dinner started right away. Instead, give your kids some undivided, focused attention when you walk through the door.

  • The dishes can wait. It's true. All of the household chores can wait. It's O.K. to give yourself some time to unwind and relax with your kids.

  • Get the kids involved in making dinner. Working together on a task makes your kids feel important to you.

  • Minimize TV time. Instead of feeling relaxed, watching too much TV can make your children feel "wound up," which isn't what you want right before bedtime.
